Spring is coming! Here is how to get your furry friend ready.

Hey there! So, you know how everyone talks about spring cleaning for your home? Well, what about a little spring prep for your best furry friend? I mean, with all the flowers blooming and the sun shining a bit more, it’s the perfect time to make sure our pooches are as happy and healthy as they can be. Here are some tips I’ve gathered (and plan to use) to help my pup embrace spring with their best paw forward!

Dog outside during springtime

  1. Brush Those Furs Away: As the snow melts and the coats come off (ours and theirs), it’s super important to give our dogs regular brushings. Whether you have a fluffy giant who sheds like there’s no tomorrow or a sleek little one with less hair, brushing not only gets rid of excess fur but also makes for some sweet bonding time. Plus, it’s a great way to keep an eye out for any sneaky ticks or skin issues.

  2. Pest Patrol Time: Speaking of sneaky, fleas and ticks are pretty much the uninvited party crashers of spring. And let’s not forget about mosquitoes bringing in heartworm risks. I’m definitely not about to let these pests spoil our fun in the sun, so I’m starting my dog on those preventive meds ASAP. A quick chat with the vet, and we’re all set to tackle spring head-on!

  3. Vet Check-ups Are a Must: I love any excuse to spoil my pooch, and a trip to the vet for a spring check-up is kind of like their spa day, right? It’s a good time to make sure their vaccines are up to date and maybe even get a dental cleaning. After all, a healthy pup is a happy pup!

  4. ID Update Time: With all the outdoor adventures we’ll be having, I’m making sure my dog’s tags and microchip info are updated. It’s one of those just-in-case measures that makes me feel a bit more secure when we’re out exploring.

  5. Yard Safety Check: Before I let my dog out to frolic in the yard, I’m going to do a quick sweep to make sure winter hasn’t left any harmful surprises behind. And, of course, I’ll be checking that the fence is escape-proof. Safety first, right?
